• Travel Mini

    Original

This was a kit that I had from Pinecone Press which is not being sold anymore. However, you can still get the chipboard album blank (complete with rings) and the Simple Stories Destinations paper pack that came in the kit. I am not incredibly talented at making albums from scratch so this was a huge learning opportunity for me to learn to add different features to an album. I did not include any photos in mine since I am planning to use this for photos from an upcoming trip, but I think it will be clear where the photos fit.

  • Step 1

    Original

Here is a picture of the items used. The album blank is a 6x12. You also will need grosgrain ribbon in tan, brown, rust, green and black and several compatible colors of jute twine, as well as your destinations paper pack. Also needed: corner rounder, scissors, paper cutter, adhesive, foam dots, stapler, hole punch

  • Step 2

    Original

Cut the following papers in half to make 6x12 pieces:words/stripe, card/plaid, compass/travelogue, polka dots/map, burgundy/gold houndstooth, compass swirls/number list. Also cut up the cards on the right half of the cards/plaid paper. Other pages (2x12 Border/4x12 Title Strip, 4x4 Quote/6x8 Photo Mat, 4x6 Journaling Card, Travel Notes) will be cut apart as needed. Use the half of the compass/swirls sheet with the camera and adhere to the front of your album. Ink the edges well and punch the holes, lining up with the holes in the chipboard (I find the large punch on the Crop-o-dile is exactly the correct size). Trim any overhang on edges.
Tip: In order to be sure that your pages/inserts are being assembled in the right order, place the pages on the rings as they are finished. This is particularly important with the inserts since they are of varying sizes and placements.

  • Step 3

    Original

On the reverse of the first chipboard page/cover, adhere the half sheet of burgundy/gold houndstooth paper, houndstooth side facing up. Ink the edges well. Punch holes. from the 4x6 Journaling Card sheet, cut the This is the Life card. Place on the page at the angle you want, measure the area that needs to be trimmed and cut. Adhere near top of page. Fussy cut the airplane from the Travel Notes paper and adhere using foam dots. From the same sheet cut the black polka dot swirls card. Round the edges, ink and wrap with twine. Adhere near bottom of page. Cut the Travel Log card from the same sheet (right next to the polka dot swirls card). Adhere at an angle in the center of the page with foam dots.

  • Step 4

    Original

To make the insert page, cut this piece from the 2x12 Border/4x12 Title Strip page (this would be on the 4x12 side). This is the center strip. Using one of the chipboard pages as a template, line up the striped edge with the holes and punch. Tie a length of ribbon around the page. This is a loose cardstock piece, it does not get adhered to a chipboard piece.

  • Step 5

    Original

On the second chipboard page, adhere a 6x12 piece of the polka dots cardstock. As before, punch holes in cardstock in line with the holes on the chipboard and ink edges well. On the long side opposite the holes, adhere the bracket piece cut from one of the 4x12 Title Strips pieces. Ink edges. From the Travel Notes cardstock sheet, fussy cut the Noteworthy piece and adhere. From the same sheet cut the North South East West strip and adhere at an angle in the center. This leaves room for a photo at top.

  • Step 6

    Original

On the opposite side of the second page, adhere the half of the Compass/ Travelogue cardstock with the compass on it (I adhered mine upside down I think, but it still looks good!). Again, punch holes in line with the holes in the cardstock and ink edges well. Put adhesive on three sides of the ticket flashcard and adhere at an angle to make the pocket. Round the corners of the Explore and camera flash cards and punch holes in the center top. Pass short lengths of ribbon through the holes and staple together; trim ends. Slip into the pocket.

  • Step 7

    Original

Using the last uncut piece of the 4x12 border strip, cut the tabs for the page as shown. Cut straight line between the colored striped strip and the burgundy strip. Cut the tabs apart between brackets. Ink.

  • Step 8

    Original

This and the next two pages are insert pages again, and do not get adhered to chipboard. With one of the tabs that were just made, cut a half inch slit on either side of the striped edge and insert/adhere to the edge of the Go See Do Journaling Card (right side). Line up approximately 1 1/2 inches from the bottom edge and punch holes.

  • Step 9

    Original

  • Step 10

    Original

Cut apart the 4x4 Quote and 6X8 Photo Mat cardstock sheet. With the 6x8 photo mat (polka dots), turn up the reverse side and line up with the bottom of the chipboard page; punch holes. Cut slits in one of the tabs as before and insert/adhere close to the bottom. Cut the "It's the Journey" strip from the Travel Notes cardstock; adhere at an angle just above the colored swirls on the bottom of the page.

  • Step 11

    Original

  • Step 12

    Original

Cut out the Destination strip from the Travel Notes cardstock. On the opposite side of the 6x8 photo mat page, adhere lengthwise along the inner frame edge on the left side of this page (opposite the hole edge).

  • Step 13

    Original

  • Step 14

    Original

Flip the "We're Going Places" journaling card and align approximately 2 inches from the top of the chipboard page; punch holes. As before, cut slits in the tab and adhere/insert, lining the top edge of the tab flush with the top edge of the card.

  • Step 15

    Original

On the third chipboard page, adhere the 6x12 piece of the Cards/Plaid cardstock (the one that was not cut into cards, of course!), plaid side facing up. As before, punch holes in line with chipboard holes and ink edges well. Cut out the "We're Going Places" ticket from the Travel Notes cardstock; round the corners and adhere to the upper center third of the page using foam dots.

  • Step 16

    Original

Fussy cut the Happiness Travel frame from the 4x6 journaling card.

  • Step 17

    Original

On the opposite side of the same chipboard page, adhere the 6x12 cardstock sheet of Polka Dots cardstock (this would be the other half of the one used on page 2); punch holes and ink edges. Adhere the cardstock piece that was just cut out to the top half of the page, flush with the left edge. Cut the "Remember This" piece from the Travel Notes cardstock and adhere close to the hole edge and bottom corner using foam dots. (Note: since I plan to add photos later, I left the left edge of this piece mostly unattached so that I can slip in a photo behind it. Several of the other embellishments were done this way as well).

  • Step 18

    Original

Using the other half of the Compass/Travelogue page (Travelogue side up), score at 3" and 6" from the right edge; fold accordion style

  • Step 19

    Original

This is how the Travelogue page looks folded accordion style. Fold an approximately 4" piece of ribbon into a V and staple to the upper right edge. Align with chipboard piece, holes at left edge, approximately 1 1/2 inches from the bottom; punch holes.

Not shown: Align the 4x6 Journaling Card "Relaxation, Vacation, Getaway" (Camera side up) with the top edge of the chipboard and punch holes along left edge. Cut slits in tab and insert/adhere flush with top edge.

  • Step 20

    Original

Flip the accordion fold piece over. Cut out "Our Trip" square from the Travel Notes cardstock and adhere using foam dots at center top edge.

  • Step 21

    Original

On fourth chipboard page, adhere the Burgundy cardstock 6x12 piece. Punch holes; ink edges and trim. Cut "Been There Done That" strip from Travel Notes cardstock; round corners and adhere at an angle at the top with foam dots. Cut out the Journey square from the same cardstock: round corners and adhere at an angle close to center right with foam dots.

  • Step 22

    Original

Fold 6x8 Big Ticket photo mat in half to measure 4x6" (the side shown in the photo is the inside).

  • Step 23

    Original

Wrap Destination flash card (from Cards/Plaid) with twine and adhere to the outside of the folded 4x6" piece.

  • Step 24

    Original

On the opposite side of the burgundy covered chipboard page, cover with Words/Stripe 6x12" piece. Punch holes; ink and trim. Adhere folded piece to top half of page at a slight angle. Cut "Good Times" square piece from Travel Notes cardstock to left edge close to bottom.

  • Step 25

    Original

On last chipboard page, adhere remaining 6x12 piece of Words/Stripes with the word side facing out. Punch holes; ink and trim. Ink the remaining tab piece and the edges of the Boarding Pass Journaling card (Are We There Yet side). Adhere the tab piece to the top half of the card; trim to fit. Put adhesive on three sides of the journaling card, leaving top edge free; adhere to bottom edge of page. Cut "Arrival/ Departure" icon from Travel Notes; adhere at an angle over pocket.

Not shown: Back side of this page is the back cover. Cover with reverse side of Compass Swirls and as usual, punch holes, ink edges and trim.

  • Step 26

    Original

For front cover: Cut out Ticket from Cards

(Tip: to easily cut out inverted half circles, use a hole punch)

  • Step 27

    Original

Ink edge of ticket and curl upper left hand corner. Adhere at an angle slightly below the center. Cut out circle "Date" icon from Travel Notes; ink edges and adhere over ticket. Adhere "Big Adventure" square from Photo Mat sheet over top edge of ticket at a slight angle using foam dots. Cut Compass icon from Travel Notes and adhere slightly overlapping the edge of the Big Adventure square using double foam dots. Add rings if not already done; cut 5" lengths of ribbon and twine and tie to each ring (approximately 2 pieces of each on each ring).
